The Wall
The US soldiers who lost their lives in the Vietnam War are honoured by a memorial wall in Washington D.C.. Survivors leave small mementos there. Director Joseph Sargent selects three of these objects to tell exemplary soldiers' stories. In "The Pencil Holder", Colonel Holst only finds his way back to his son through the suffering of others. "The Pin" is given to Bracey by his grandmother before he goes off to war. But the family talisman cannot save him from death in the jungle. Finally, "The Guitar" shows a responsible soldier who inspires a disillusioned officer to reflect on his behaviour.
